The aims of St. Colmcille’s Sports Academy are:

  • To give children the chance to develop physical activity and wellbeing.
  • Provide opportunities for children to take part in individual and team sports.
  • Give children access to high quality coaching in a wide range of sports.
  • Improve children’s self esteem, resilience and reduce anxiety.
  • Maximise physical activity every week.

In St. Colmcille’s there is a nurturing culture ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be happy and healthy while developing talents and abilities that suit their own interests and individual needs.

The school community in St. Colmcille’s will ensure the following:

  • Children will take part in at least 5 hours of physical activity while in school each week, in line with recommendations from the World Health Organisation.
  • Outside coaching organisations will deliver a range of coaching sessions for individual and team sports each week beginning in September 2021.
  • The staff of St. Colmcille’s will deliver a range of coaching sessions to children in a range of sports including handball, Gaelic football, cross country running, fundamental movement, soccer, gymnastics, netball, basketball, swimming, hurling, camogie and martial arts.
  • A significant budget for the purchase and upkeep of sports equipment for the children every academic year.
  • After-school clubs in individual and team sports will run throughout the year, beginning in September 2021 for all classes.
  • Opportunities for staff and pupils to gain recognised qualifications in coaching sports.
